Haystack Fundraiser 3/27/24
Save the Date! August 10, 4-8pm
As you head into summer, Mr. Nickerson and I just wanted to make sure you have our REQUIRED Orchestra Orientation on Thursday, August 10, 4-8 PM in your calendars. At this event you’ll “drop in” during the time above to take care of the following:
- Pay required fees (financial aid is available)
- Complete required paperwork
- Order spirit-wear
- Update contact information
- Volunteer for the year
On a related note, please be sure to accept our invitation to next year’s Google Classroom so you can practice the music we have assigned. If you still need an instrument from Pearce, we must take care of that no later than TOMORROW before Pearce shuts down for construction. See you soon and let us know if you have any questions!

Please make plans to attend this mandatory orientation event where you can meet the directors and other students, complete required paperwork, pay program fees* (cash/check/other payment methods TBD), get fitted for your concert uniform, learn about spirit wear orders and more.
After taking care of business enjoy a cool treat with friends on Senior Way!

Orchestra Banquet
The orchestra banquet is right around the corner! We need to gather a quick count of individuals who will be attending the banquet. Please fill out the form located at https://forms.gle/5pWHGUp3h9RU4taV6 no later than April 26. Payment is also due by April 26.
Banquet details:
Date: April 30 from 6-9pm
Location: Richardson Professional Development Center
Details: Dinner (provided by Holy Frijoles), Senior pass downs, live DJ and fun!
Cost: $25 per person
CONGRATS!
It was a great week for Orchestra. Three of our ensembles participated in the UIL Region 20 Concert and Sightreading Evaluation and we took high honors. Both Concert and Symphony were awarded Superior Ratings (a “Sweepstakes”); Philharmonic earned an Excellent Rating on Stage and a Superior Rating in Sightreading. These ratings are very difficult to earn and require a high amount of teamwork and group success.
Here is a photo of our Symphony Orchestra from yesterday’s full orchestra performance—a combo group made up of the best Orchestra and Band students at Pearce High School. We were one of only two schools that participated in this type of collaboration this year.

All Region Orchestra Success
This past Saturday, 29 students gave their best efforts at the first Region event in two years—this represents about 30% of our program membership. I am so proud of all of our students, regardless of the outcome. That is tremendous participation, especially after a COVID year.
SIXTEEN (16) Students qualified to be in the Region Philharmonic Ensemble:
- Violin—Leo Lopez, Blanca Castro, Jiyi Liew
- Viola—Laura Grade (1st chair!!!), Jared Valderrabano, Spencer Milburn and Cooper Burkett
- Cello—Mia Springborn, Connor Maul, Max Francis, Paul Rickard, Ava Crawford and Sophia Manganiello
- Bass—Diego Lopez and Avery Gajak
- Harp—Sarah Grigsby
SEVEN (7) Students qualified to be in the Region Honors Ensemble:
- Violin—Sunny Ouyang
- Viola—Joey Lansch, Caroline Mulry and Nick Shelton
- Cello—Spencer Van Goor
- Bass—Madi Cano and Karly Norton
Please congratulate these students on their accomplishments.
Orchestra Registration
| Orchestra registration will take place on Thursday, August 12. You do not need to stay the entire time, but simply come and go as you please between 5-7pm. Due to construction, please enter via Senior Way. Students and parents, please join us for pizza, ice cream (from Tongue in Cheek) and fun as we gather required forms, try on uniforms, and prepare the instruments for this new school year. Students will receive a coupon for one free ice cream. Parents and guests can purchase a coupon for $4. You’ll also have the chance to see Mrs. Livings and meet our new assistant director, Mr. Nickerson! |
