JJPO Mustang Orchestra family,
I am pleased to announce that the RISD Administration has officially APPROVED our plans for a 2020 Winter Concert. As with everything this semester, it will look a little different than we are used to, but we hope to create a situation that is both safe and rewarding for everyone involved. Here are the details that we have at this moment:
- On the week of December 7th, STUDENTS ONLY (opt-in virtual/in person) will report to the Orchestra room at an assigned time for warm-up. (The report time will be determined by the survey in this email according to student availability).
- Students will be masked at all times and will be seated with social distancing in mind.
- All students must complete the RISD Screener prior to coming into the building.
- After a 30-minute rehearsal, a live performance will be streamed to audience members via Zoom from the orchestra room. (This Zoom performance will also be posted on a link for viewing later in case parents have conflicts or technical difficulties.)
- Adults and observers will not be in the building or permitted to watch in the orchestra room.
- The ensemble setup will be sanitized and the building vacated before the next group is allowed to enter.
- Attire is orchestra shirt and jeans/pants/shorts. Remote students may pick up their orchestra shirt on the day of the rehearsal if they have not received it yet.
Please note that students who do not feel safe attending for whatever reason will not be penalized in any way if they choose to “opt out.” While we seek to offer all the precautions we can in these unsettling times, we understand this is a very personal decision. We hope that the majority of our members are reassured by our plans and excited for something that is pretty close to what we’ve all been waiting for. At the very least, those that must opt-out will have a wonderful Zoom recording to perform asynchronously with for family later.
